It is under heartbreaking circumstances I am posting this. My big brother was diagnosed with a stage 4 cancerous Glioblastoma multiform brain tumor this past July. Please follow the link and read his story. If you could repost and spread the word it would be so great.
Much love & Aloha

Beautiful Jamil
At the young age of 32, Jamil Newirth has been diagnosed with a stage 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme, which is a cancerous and malignant brain tumor. Jamil will undergo resection surgery to try and remove as much of the tumor as possible before starting radiation and chemotherapy treatment. This type of brain tumor is fast growing and has a 100% recurrence rate, therefore Jamil faces a lifelong battle. Future surgeries and subsequent treatment are highly likely. Just as Jamil’s battle will be ongoing, so will the financial burden. Jamil’s family is now looking to raise money to pay for the initial medical bills and to support his health regime as he enters a period of extensive treatments.
Jamil was born in Santa Cruz, California on March 27, 1980. At the age 9 his family moved to Maui, Hawaii where he enjoyed the ocean and living on Maui’s North Shore. Jamil attended Seabury Hall High School where he was lucky to be a part of an exceptional basketball team that is still talked about to this day. He has always been a studious, yet well rounded student.
He was given a partial scholastic scholarship to attend Pepperdine University in Malibu, California where he earned a B.A. in Advertising and Minor in Marketing. He worked hard in school receiving excellent grades and also working part-time as a valet. He has always had a stong work ethic.
Jamil was fortunate to start his career working for the Mercedes-Benz national advertising agency. After a couple years he was recruited by another advertising agency still within the automotive industry. Jamil had thought about going to law school directly out of college and wishing to return home to Hawaii for good, Jamil devised a plan to finally fulfill his dream of attaining a law degree. He had saved enough money to help put himself through school and graduated from University of Hawaii’s William S. Richardson School of Law in May 2012 with an Environmental Law Certificate. After graduation he let his health insurance lapse because he was studying for the Bar Exam and was to return home to Maui on August 1st to work for a Judge. Jamil was very excited for this opportunity and to be returning home. It was the first step in his plan to open a small firm on Maui dedicated to upholding the integrity of the profession and giving back to the island community. These plans were put on hold in late June when Jamil began experiencing extreme headaches, visiting the ER twice before an MRI revealed a large tumor.
Jamil’s name means beautiful and that is for sure not only on the outside but on the inside as well. His focus has always been long term, building for his future. He never wanted a quick fix or short term gain. He is laid back in nature but enjoys challenges. He enjoyed studying and developing the intellectual part of his mind, learning about law, potilitcs, history and the environment. Jamil is a self-made man, always willing to work hard and help others. He is kind and thoughtful and when he is your friend, he is for life. He is loved by so many friends and family and still has a bright future ahead.
Anyways, enough of that bull. This is Jamil and as you can tell I have had to pretty much give up control of my life (from what I eat to what I do) but I wanted to add a little something. I consider myself to be extremely fortunate because of all the people I have met along the way and the fun times we have all shared. This is a tough hit but I’m not going down without hitting back and hope to share more fun times with everyone. I would like to thank David, Melissa, Naomi, and Kaili because it is only with their help that I am getting stronger every day. Thank you to everyone for all the well wishes, thoughts and prayers, I cannot wait to hang out again soon and have some fun. Be well. – Jamil

We absolutely love and adore these two girls…their style, their sweetness, their talent! Meet Ally and Tiana of the BIKINI BIRD
What inspired bikini bird? We have always been really passionate about the beach lifestyle. It’s something we both grew up with and something we always seem to gravitate back to. I think it’s a lifestyle that a lot of girls can relate to and think about even if they live in a city or in thesnow..It’s that jet-setting vacation lifestyle that many girls are drawn to.
How did you girls meet? We first met about 15 years ago. We grew up on different islands but Hawaii is really just so small when it comes to who knows who. We had a lot of mutual friends so our paths always seemed to cross. We both went to college in California and really connected on that side, ending up as roommates in when we lived in Costa Mesa.
What’s next for bikini bird? We have a lot of new things happening for this coming year. We told ourselves that we wanted to grow BikiniBIrd organically and it’s been a total labor of love for the last couple of years. SO now, at this point we are really feeling ready to take it to the next step.
Your daily routine…
Fav ACACIA…My absolute go-tos are the Deia top and and ho’okipa bottom. I rotate between the snake print and the black. Can’t wait to throw the stripe in the mix.
Fav Beach…On Kauai..Tunnels is one of the more magical beaches I have ever been too. Although, the maui in me can’t help but love Pavills ; )
Current must have…where do I start, I’m a sucker for jewelry..I always have a mental wishlist from Jennifer Fisher Jewelry , RubyKobo and Dezso…
Next on the map…Really excited for NYC..it’s been too long, love the energy and lack of sleeping.

Launched in the spring of 2012, the store represents Melissa’s love for collecting vintage textiles and her belief that products can be made using traditional methods and developed into modern ideas. Her aesthetic values reflect the beauty of things in their simplest forms, which are sometimes unconventional or imperfect. The name for the company represents the essence of her aspiration to “keep it simple.”
SERVICES
Melissa offers personal services for interior design, creative consulting, home staging, environment and product styling for photo shoots, and custom pillow work. Please see her interior design website at melissanewirth.com. All inquiries can be directed to info@clothandgoods.com
THE STUDIO
Cloth and Goods studio is multi- purposed. Melissa’s vision is for it to not only be a showroom for her selected wares but also to act as a hub for artists to display their work, have evening lectures, and other activities that compliment the work of the studio.
ABOUT MELISSA
Melissa discovered her love for design at a young age. Growing up near New York City she was influenced by fashion. Her mother worked in the fashion industry, and she shopped directly from the showrooms in the garment center. Having a great eye for fabric, color, and style, Melissa soon became a personal shopper.
Melissa’s interests expanded from fashion to interior design, and she became a prop stylist for catalogs and editorials in magazines, such as Pottery Barn Catalog, Country Living magazine, Food and Wine magazine, to name a few. She has been in the interior design field for the past 12 years.
Extensive global travel informs Melissa’s textile collection. One way she gets to know a place is by looking for the unexpected, whether it is in nature or shopping for one-of-a-kind items in flea markets and antique shops around the world. She has lived in California and Hawaii and currently resides in Portland, Oregon.
WE HOPE YOU LOVE MELISSA’S NEW SHOP AS MUCH AS WE DO!
